Day 7. Jéan Christmas.

June 10, 2015
Grandas to Padrón
Distance: 30 kilometers
Steps: 40,896
Stairs equivalent: 114 floors
Agony level:  3

These little capillas dot the trail. Some of the chapels are 13th and 14th century.

By the time the sun brushed the trees I had crossed from Asturias into the Galicia region of Spain. Luckily the rain that had been in the forecast didn’t materialize. I dressed in all the layers I had yet never broke a sweat today thanks to the wind and low temps.

I’ve come to believe that if I spot a line of windmills in the distance, they will be behind me before the day is done. It was a very long time before I was able to look back and shoot these windmills.

Dinner tonight will be an upscale affair prepared in our albergue by Jéan Christmas, one of the pilgrims in my wave.

Jéan Christmas to us, is Jéan Noél to his mother, in honor of his birthday. In addition to his culinary skills, Jéan Christmas has an interesting background. He spent his career attached to French embassies in Africa. The man has stories to tell, some we want to hear, some we don’t.

Just hanging out.

We are all salivating at the smells coming from the kitchen–and dinner isn’t for an hour!
